One Leg At A Time

When I was growing up, my mom used to always say, "Everyone puts their pants on the same way, one leg at a time." At the time, I didn’t fully understand what she meant. But now, as an adult, I absolutely do. That simple saying has given me the confidence to connect with people who have bigger titles, higher income brackets, or more prestige than I do. Whenever I’ve found myself in a situation where I felt intimidated, unsure, or not “enough,” I’d remind myself of my mom's quote.

What I’ve come to realize is that no matter how successful, powerful, or important someone may seem, they still face the same human struggles, doubts, and vulnerabilities as the rest of us. The difference is often not in their abilities, but in their grit to push through those moments of fear or insecurity. We’re all just trying to figure it out, and the only thing standing between you and your goals is the belief that you’re just as capable as anyone else in the room.

So today, if you’re facing a challenge that makes you feel small or unqualified whether it’s stepping into a new job, speaking up in a meeting, or simply putting yourself out there I want you to remember that everyone you come in contact with puts their pants on the same way you do, one leg at a time.

Go be great!
